WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law SB 2420, the Parental Digital Safety and Transparency Act, marking a pivotal moment in the national movement to safeguard families in the digital age, due to the leadership of Senator Angela Paxton and Representative Caroline Fairly. Their steadfast commitment to advancing this critical legislation ensured its successful passage into law.
“SB 2420 is more than a bill. It’s a blueprint for restoring parental rights in the digital space,” said Sarah Hunt, President of the Joseph Rainey Center Freedom Project. “Governor Abbott’s bold leadership sends an unmistakable signal: Texas will not stand by while harmful, unregulated content reaches our children. Texas just set a new standard for transparency, accountability, and common-sense protections that empower parents and shield kids from harm. Congress and other states should look to Texas as an example to protect children while putting power in the hands of parents, not bureaucrats."
“This is an important step that protects both children and social media companies from overregulation that leads to the erosion of the free speech principles America was built on,” said Rob Smith, a digital media content creator, influencer, and Rainey Center Freedom Project Fellow.
The Rainey Center Freedom Project is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization that is the advocacy partner of the Joseph Rainey Center for Public Policy, a public policy researchorganization and leadership community advancing freedom, equality, and a more perfect unionwhere the American dream is for everyone.
